Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves (plus extra for garnish, if desired)
  • 1 liter club soda (chilled)
  • 1 cups lemon juice (about 10 lemons)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • For basil syrup, combine water, sugar, and basil in a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  • Strain syrup and discard leaves. Allow to cool, then cover and chill syrup for 2 to 24 hours to let the flavors really blend.
  • For lemonade, combine the chilled syrup, club soda, and lemon juice in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
