How is that another month has come and gone? In a couple of days it will be August – which is a big month in our family. LOTS of August birthdays, including my baby girl’s. She’ll be two, y’all. TWO. I just…can’t.
Since my last post, we had the 4th of July of course. The office closed early on the 3rd, as well as Nat’s daycare, so we had a little mommy-daughter time in the afternoon while we waited for J to get home. And what better way to spend that time, than taking silly selfies together – right?? This kid of mine is a ham, I tell ya. Except when I want her to be. Because, of course.
And J doesn’t get many holidays off from work, so we really enjoyed having an extra day off as a family. Even if it was in the middle of the week. We had two Mondays that week, and it was…weird. But, I never turn my nose up at an extra day off. Neva eva.
Work has settled down a bit – we just had our summer board retreat, which kept me pretty busy, but it also allowed me to have a nice little weekend getaway with my family once it was over, at a nice resort close to home. I believe, with the exception of logistical administrative needs, that I have officially released the reins of meeting planning and that my friends, is truly a welcomed thing. Don’t get me wrong, I have been truly happy to help out, but it is definitely not something I wanted to do long-term. Sure, I will still help out with things, but being on the front-lines is over. Insert sigh of relief, here.
My boss generously offered for J and Nat to come to the resort where we had our meeting and for us to all stay the weekend, paid for by the company, as a thanks for all of my help during our big conference and the transition to the incoming meeting planner. It was a beautiful place, Nat really enjoyed it (so much that she would get very upset when we went back to the room from the pool and lazy river), and J and I were both so appreciative of the gesture and the ability to have a little family getaway. There was so much to do there, but with Nat being so young and it being so stinking hot outside, we mostly took advantage of the pool area and the little lazy river they have. Nat liked sitting in the little tube that had a bottom in it, and J always loves being in the water. She wasn’t too sure what to think about the hotel room, though. She’s never been in one before, and she kept asking to, “go living room” and couldn’t understand when we told her we were in it, or there wasn’t one. That the room was all there was. She also was not a fan of the elevators. Mommy had to hold her every time we got on it. Running up and down the hall, however, was great fun!
We were close enough to home that we were able to leave for a few hours on Saturday to go let the dogs out and go to a family birthday party, then home again for the dogs and Nat’s nap before heading back to the resort for more water time. All-in-all it was a great ending to a long work-week. Next up on the travel plans is a beach trip on my birthday weekend. J’s sister and brother-in-law have a house down at the coast, so we will go there for a few days in August. And then the following weekend will be baby girl’s birthday. Ack!
Keep an eye out for a blurry-eyed, sentimental mama post about that in Baby Bites.
