It’s been awhile since I shared any musings. January feels like a lifetime ago. I was beyond ready for it to be over, ready to start a new month and hopefully get back on track. But, as with most things, my hope didn’t go as planned. Now, don’t get me wrong, nothing bad has happened. I just haven’t been able to get out from under the feeling of being overwhelmed.
You see, I am – by nature, a pretty organized person. I like to make lists. I like to have a plan. But I have been seriously lacking motivation. I make my lists. I stare at them, and I have a realllly hard time cracking the whip on myself and knocking those lists out. And that, my friends, is just not me. I’m still working that out. But, we did have some fun in February and March.
February was Valentine’s Day – which I am not big on celebrating – but it is fun to celebrate all of these little holidays with Nat now that she can understand better what is going on. J got her a few things to open up that day, I made some adorable cupcakes for her school party, and that weekend, he took her to a daddy-daughter dance at church. They looked so cute, and they had such a good time. And mama stayed home and made an amazing meal and enjoyed some quiet time.
My parents came to visit, and brought me a kitchen butcher block island that my mama made for me. It was a much needed addition to my kitchen, and extra special because my mama made it – using some wood that came from my grandpa (that I never met), so it has a sentimental aspect as well as functional.
It had been awhile since we had a girl’s brunch, so some of us girls got together at the end of February for a belated Galentine’s brunch. As always, great food, good drinks, and good company. Just look how pretty that table was!
And finally, we took Nat to the Austin rodeo to visit the carnival and the petting zoo. She wasn’t so sure about the petting zoo – with it’s deer, goats, baby zebra (what?!?) and a giant camel!! There were a lot of animals, a lot of people, and it was a bit much for my timid girl. But she was pretty excited about the parakeet cage. Notsomuch the one carnival ride we went on, though. Admittedly, it was a bit more intense that it looked. Next year she’ll probably love it.
February and March had some fun and good memories, and now we’re into April and the next few months are sure to have some as well. Especially since the weather seems to finally be staying on the warm (hot) side!! Hallelujah!
