Sweet Musings: April 2018

April 18, 2018 by Jaida Leave a Comment

It’s been an…interesting month, so far, to say the least. Some good, some bad, some frustrating, infuriating, and stressful. You know, just another day in the life. Ha. But we will forgo talking about the less pleasant parts, what’d ya say?

It’s no secret that Mother Nature has been a little finicky and reluctant to go ahead and just give us spring weather, and it thrown off some of our weekend plans this month. The first weekend we were supposed to have a little pool play date with some other moms and daughters, but that was foiled by 50 degree (high) temps.

This made me laugh, because…yes. For me, anyway.

My childhood best friend is getting married (!!) in less than a month. I’ve known this girl since we were 2 or 3 years old. Her grandparents lived next door to us and we met across the fence when we were just toddlers. A few years later, her family would move into that house after her grandparents passed, and we were besties and inseparable from then on. We were eight, then. That was 30 years ago. Damn. We old. Ha!

But, really. I’m one of the Matrons of Honor in her wedding. I will stand next to her, give a toast, and do all the MoH duties that come with. I’ve already got my dress, the jewelry has been ordered, the bridal shower and bachelorette parties were this past weekend, and so now we just have to tie up any loose ends over the next 3 weeks. And that dress I mentioned? I tried it on and, it’s a bit snug. Not unbearably so, but…I could stand to give myself a little more wiggle room.  And less back fat bulge. Ugh.

Remember that new schedule I showed you last month, that I was really hoping to get my rear in gear and actual do? Well, sadly that hasn’t happened yet. Unless you count the last two mornings where my darling daughter decided that 4:15 and 5:30 a.m. would be a good time to wake up, I have not managed to force myself out of bed much earlier than my usual time. I’m hoping, however, that this newest little “issue”, with the bridesmaid dress will be just the push I need. I mean, I don’t expect any huge changes in 3 weeks, but something would be better than nothing, right? And if I can get up with  my kiddo at 4:15 in the morning and then stay up when I finally get her back down at 4:45, then I can get up at 4:30 on my own. Right? Right?!?!

And in other, blog-related, news. #BrunchWeek is coming!! April 30th-May 5th. All the good food, y’all. Brunch recipes, galore!! We have some great sponsors again this year, which means great giveaway opportunities and, more importantly, great recipes for you to try! Be sure to check back on April 30th for all the deets 🙂

And Mother Nature, for the love of all that is holy, let us deal with our not-ready bodies, and let winter go! We need consistent warmth and sunshine, for cryin’ out loud!

Welcome!

As a busy wife and mom who also works a full time job, I try to have dinner done in 30 minutes or less so I can spend more of my evenings with my hubby and baby girl, so what you will find here are recipes that are mostly-healthy, quick and easy. Of course I have desserts, less healthy and more time-intensive meals as well (everything in moderation!), but all-in-all, you can count on weeknight friendly options, all made with love and dished up with a side of life, love, and family!
