Heart-Shaped Egg-in-a-Hole is a fun and delicious way to serve breakfast to your loved ones!
If you’re anything like me, weekend mornings are busy going to dance class or church, and finding time to make a hot breakfast feels like an almost impossible task. So, the family winds up eating a protein bar, or starving until after we get home again. And that’s not ideal, at all. The good news is, a good, hearty breakfast doesn’t have to take ages to make.
And this Heart-Shaped Egg-in-a-Hole is a perfect example of that. It’s quick, delicious, and adorable too! You can make it as a Valentine’s day breakfast, or just any day that you want to make your loved ones start their day with a smile. You only need about 5 minutes and you can have this breakfast plated up to eat. Serve with some crispy bacon and fresh fruit, with some jam spread on the toasted heart cut-out pieces. The runny egg yolk is perfect for dipping the toasted bread in, and the kiddos think it’s so fun!

How to make Heart-Shaped Egg-in-a-Hole
Full printable recipe card below!
- Use a medium heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the center of each slice of bread. Set the cut-out hearts aside.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, swirl the butter to coat the pan, then add two of the slices of bread and two of the heart cut-outs. Cook until nicely browned, then gently flip all the pieces over.
- Crack one egg into the center of each of the toasts, season with salt and pepper, lower the heat, cover the skillet and allow to cook until whites are done, but middle is still runny (unless you prefer them well-done, in which case you can break the yolk!) You may also opt to flip the toast & eggs with a spatula and cook the other side that way without covering the skillet, it just won’t have the same finished look.
- Remove to plates, and repeat with remaining slices of bread and cut-outs.
- Serve with fresh fruit, crispy bacon and jam on the cut-out pieces, if you’d like!
What to serve with Egg-in-a-Hole
It’s really personal preference, but I find that some nice, fresh fruit, and couple slices of crispy bacon and some raspberry (or other flavor) jam slathered on the toast cut-outs makes for a nicely rounded out breakfast!
