Grilling season wouldn’t be complete without Citrus-Marinated Chicken on the menu! Chicken thighs and drumsticks soak up all the citrus deliciousness in the marinade, and then get grilled to juicy perfection and topped with a reduced sauce for an extra kick of citrus!

When summer rolls around, the grills come out and everyone wants to be outside, not in the kitchen heating up the house. Hubby prefers to grill all weekend long, so I’m always trying to come up with different things for him to make, even though we often go to our ol’ stand-bys of fajitas, burgers, or sausages. However, there are a couple of new recipes that we have already made at least three times each. One of those is the Grilled Citrus-Marinated Pork Chops I shared with you a couple of months ago, and the other is this Grilled Citrus-Marinated Chicken. Do you see a theme here? Ha!

The marinade for both recipes is similar, but just a bit different with the seasonings. Both are insanely delicious, which is why we’ve made them multiple times already, and I’m sure several more times before the grill goes into hibernation for the winter.

How to make Grilled Citrus-Marinated Chicken

Full Printable Recipe Below!

  1. Combine green onions cilantro, garlic, citrus zests and juices, soy sauce, oil, and salt in a food processor or blender until a coarse purée forms. Place chicken in a large, resealable plastic bag and pour marinade in. Seal bag, gently knead and turn bag to coat chicken pieces. Refrigerate for 20 minutes, up to 2 hours.
  2. Heat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat (around 350-400 degrees F), and remove chicken pieces with tongs and place on grill skin side down. Reserve marinade for later use.
  3. Cook chicken, turning as needed, until cooked through (165 degrees F.)
  4. Meanwhile, pour the reserved marinade into a small sauce pan and heat to boiling. Boil until sauce has reduced and thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Once chicken is cooked through, remove from grill and serve with the reduced sauce.
