Eggnog French Toast combines a favorite holiday drink with a classic breakfast treat for the ulimate Christmas morning delight!
It’s no secret that I am all about the Christmas goodies. I bake more this time of year than probably the rest of the year combined. But something you may not know is that I’m also a big fan of Christmas breakfast. So, why wouldn’t I combine two classics – eggnog and French toast – and make an amazing recipe for Christmas morning?!?
I actually made this recipe for the first time last year, while my parents were visiting, and it only took one bite and lots of oohs and aahs for me to know this one was a keeper. It has all the delicious eggnog flavor soaked into French toast that is perfectly toasted and crisp, then top it off with some maple syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. If that isn’t Christmas magic friends, I’m not sure what is!
And, let it be said that I’ve made my share of French toast recipes, usually the stuffed variety, and this one is easily at the top of my favorites! The husband liked it, the toddler liked it, the parents liked it – what’s a bigger win than that?? Definitely a keeper. And each bite will just melt in your mouth and send flavor bursting onto your tastebuds!

Step 1
In a shallow dish, wide enough to fit the bread flat in, whisk together eggnog and eggs.
Step 2
Add rum extract, cinnamon and nutmeg and mix to combine.
Step 3
Heat a medium skillet or griddle over medium heat and add one tablespoon of butter and let it melt. (If you can fit more than three pieces of bread, use two tablespoons of butter.)
Step 4
Meanwhile, dip bread slices, one at a time, into the eggnog mixture coating both sides thoroughly, the place in the skillet. You can cook as many as will fit in the skillet without crowding them. Cook until the bottom side is nicely browned, then gently flip and do the same.
Step 5
Repeat in as many batches as necessary, adding more butter with each batch.
Step 6
Serve warm with maple syrup and a sprinkling of powdered sugar (and more cinnamon), if desired!
Sometimes we want to go all out and make a big, extravagant breakfast that takes a lot of prep or cook time, but sometimes we want something that is simple to make but will still wow our families. This is that something, friends. You’ll spend all of 10-15 minutes cooking up a breakfast that your whole crew will love, and you can spend more of your Christmas morning enjoying all the little moments that we sometimes miss while we’re in the kitchen!
