Sweet, tart, and citrusy, this Cranberry Orange Sauce will be the perfect addition to your holiday table!

I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, the only cranberry sauce I remember seeing was the can-shaped gelatin version and there was no way that stuff was going anywhere near my plate. Now, don’t get me wrong. I hear it’s very good and a ton of people like it, but…it’s just not for me. But a fresh version, like this Cranberry Orange Sauce, with fresh cranberries, orange juice and zest, and a bit of cinnamon? That is right up my alley and can park front and center on my holiday plate any. time. It doesn’t hurt that it’s super vibrant red and oh-so-pretty!

And if you know me at all, you know that maybe, just maybe, I have a slight obsesssion with all things cranberry and orange for the holidays. So, why would cranberry sauce be ay different??

What you need to make Cranberry Orange Sauce

Full list with measurements can be found in the printable recipe card below!

  • Fresh or frozen cranberries
  • Orange Juice & Zest
  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt

I mean, with an ingredient list that short, it’s too simple not to make this instead of buying the canned version!!

How to make Cranberry Orange Sauce

Full printable recipe card below!

  1. In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring the orange juice, water and sugar to a boil.
  2. Add cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon and salt and return to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until cranberries burst and soften. Stir and mash the cranberries a bit.
  3. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl. Allow to cool to room temp, then cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Three simple steps (and you can make it ahead so you aren’t worried with it the morning of your holiday celebration) for this super tasty and fresh cranberry orange sauce.

What can you do with Cranberry Orange Sauce

The better question might be, what can’t you do with it?? I mean, the obvious answer is to serve it with turkey and dressing (or stuffing if you go that route) on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, right? Of course! But you can use this deliciousness for some other great stuff, too!! Like what you ask?!? Here are a few ideas!

  • Cranberry Brie Bread Bowl (recipe coming later this week!)
  • Cranberry Meatballs (recipe coming later this week!)
  • Pinwheels with Cranberry Orange Sauce, cream cheese and turkey
  • A mix-in for plain yogurt
  • Add to a smoothie
  • Use as a spread for toast, pancakes, or waffles!

So many options, if you have any leftover, that is! If you don’t, it’s just too easy to whip up another batch!
