Blackberry Lemonade

Blackberry Lemonade is sweet and tart and the perfect refreshing beverage for the heat of summer and a backyard BBQ!

Lemonade is definitely a summer staple (year-round for this househould, though) and flavored lemonade like this Blackberry Lemonade, made with fresh blackberry puree and simple syrup makes the classic drink that much better. Sweet and tart with plenty of lemon and blackberry flavor, you will want to enjoy this lemonade all summer long.

And, if you wanted to adult it up a bit, you can add a shot of vodka to your glass. Just sayin’.

What you need to make Blackberry Lemonade

This is just an overview. Full list of ingredients with measurements can be found in the printable recipe card below!

For the simple syrup

  • Granulated sugar
  • Water

For the blackberry puree

  • Blackberries
  • Granulated sugar
  • Water

For lemonade

  • Lemon juice
  • Water
  • Lemon slices or wedges and blackberries, for garnish (optional)
  • Mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

How to make Blackberry Lemonade

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water for the simple syrup. Heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and cool.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine blackberries, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water. Heat on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the blackberries are softened and smash easily, making a blackberry sauce of sorts. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before pressing through a fine mesh strainer (over a bowl or other clean receptacle) to remove the seeds.

Once the simple syrup and blackberry puree have cooled, combine with fresh squeeze lemon juice and water in a large pitcher. Stir to mix well and then refrigerate until cold.

Serve over ice with lemon slices or wedges, blackberries and mint leaves, if desired.
